fished today. big big swell on the sea but little wind. had a friendly comp for 2 hours between 6 of us. started fishin just on the start of the ebb. started fishin close to medium range but couldn't find any fish. eventually managed 2 fish and the lads blanked. had an eel and a dab at 150+yards out in flat water behind the swell- i had some bloody good casts today for a change! we stayed on to see if we could winkle out a bass. baits were lug, rag, crab, mackeral, squid. an hour or two passed into the ebb and we were strugglin to find fish. the breakers began to die down and the fishin became easier. still nothing happening when my mate takes a 2lb bass 30yards out in surf on rag. feelin the presseure i decided to try for a turbot or rogue flounder tight in at about 10 feet! tipped lug and rag baits off with a decent strip of mackeral and used a 2oz ball lead to search out the depressions in the bottom. the bottom here had large potholes(which you go down into when wading in to cast!) and i thought they might have a held a fish or two. first cast and a turbot of 23cm. happy days! mate followed suit and took a double of good flounder. more fish on next casts but it was then time to go, just as the fish had switched on. hav a few pics will try and get them up soon. good craic, wish i could go back tomorrow!
