#1 Post by iona »

People: myself, Craig(son) Wendy( her who has to be obeyed) art.

Duration: most sessions 3-4 hours average total 5 sessions in 2 weeks

Tide: generally flood

Weather: warm and relatively calm :( no surf for much of the 2 weeks

Bait: lugworm , crab , razor and ragworm

Rigs: 2 hook paternoster

Results:
Ballyquinn area 1st night 2 bass, 4 codling and 3 coalies. Craig 2 cod+a coalie. art had a couple of coalies + a cod.

2nd night i had about 8 cod, 2 bass and 2 coalies Craig had 2 cod and art had couple then a kip!

clonea. i had 2 bass one was on the tiny side. the rest unfortunately blanked.

Waterford 2 sessions. 1st: 2bass, 3 cod + 3 coalies, Craig had 3 coalies and Wendy 4 coalies + a bass.
2nd session: 14 coalies + a cod, Craig 2 coalies and Wendy 7.

Catch and Release:: Yes/No kept a few deep hooked fish for the table.

Report:

all the fish were of a reasonable size but nothing bigger than 3lbs. the lack of a southerly wind made for poor conditions.
also suffered from taking her indoors as it seemed when i wanted to go she didn't. shops seemed to appeal more :(
mullet wise it was a waste as the water has gone coloured. the only day i did get them feeding it started to rain so i quit sharpish.

another 2 weeks in the area and i have added vastly to my knowledge of the area. the question is do i have another visit and put this to use or now move on and try further west.

thanks to Art for his help in the Dungarvan area as he has been free with info and watercraft.

great holiday if only i could persuade some one to close the shops for 2 weeks. ( apart from the tackle shop that is )

Sounds like a good trip.

By the way I find that Ballyquinn fishes better on a dropping tide. It definitely needs a bit of surf to get the fish feeding.
