Do you have any remaining objectives for this year?
Personally, i want to up my piddly species list, top of the list to get is the humble Rockling, after seeing a load of pics from Bangor pier, i'm seemingly in a good position to achieve this... well actually, i know little about them but hopefully that will change, possibly with some help. :P

One of my unfufilled ambitions for the year was to get a bass in the high singles but I've only fished for them once this year so I'll try to get out more starting this sunday. I'd also like to get a few decent flounder from a creek in the estuary. I'll leave off trying to catch decent sized for dabs and whiting for after the new year.
Looking back my other ambitions were to get some kind of tope from shore which was fulfilled though I would of liked one a slight bit larger, get a couple of rock sessions in for wrasse which I hadn't done in previous years which I did and get down to kerry to catch a painted, undulate or sting ray which I didn't.

All year I have had the feeling im going to get a big bass and I am still confident. I only have one specimen to date and that was 4 years ago and its about time I had another.
I already know where and how, its a case of when.
I reckon a warm November morning or evening, light surf, with a large bait in the right place and bingo.
Fingers crossed.

Big Bass are lazy I reckon and fish being cold blooded dont have a hight metabolism so I reckon they feed once every while but do it big style.
Maybe an injured mackerel, pollock, unsuspecting wrasse or similar which is enough to sustain them for a couple of days or more.
And they have been around for years so they are very wary.
Smaller bass tend to be more active and feed more often as a result.
So yeah it is kinda frustrating but hey thats bass fishing.

Funny you should say that. We had a sandeel net last week which we used and got a rake of stuff in a small area. Tons of small coalies, sandeels, 3 large mullet, really big herring fry, tiny wrasse....I could go on, but I was thinking that one of these small coalies would be ideal..!

No but returning a small coalie one cold, still night with no surf I watched it swim out about a couple of feet from the shore before it was nobbled by a bass.
Tried one as bait soon after but no luck :(

Probably that one coalie it needed to last it the week..!
Was it a large Bass..?
Once saw a very large Bass attacking mackerel on the surface in kerry.
Myself and the bro in law put down the rods and just watched. Class Stuff.
If I had a plug with me I would have tried to catch it but only had small spinners.
