Weekend away

Hey Guys,
A few of us from work (10 of us) are looking to get away for a small session of shore fishing.
The company we work for will pick up the cost for the accommodation etc

Just wondering if any of ye have any suggestions on where we might head to - we were thinking of Kerry/Clare or possibly even Wexford?
Just need somewhere that will produce a few fish that doesnt require us to hire a band of sherpas to get to

We would need B&B for one night ( saturday/sunday session ).

Needless to say we also require somewhere we can get well hammered on Sat night

Any and all suggestions are welcome

Great report in total sea anger this month about dingle bay. lots of ray caught

In the absence of any other suggestions we have gone for an overnighter in Dingle.

BTW can you suggest a B&B or hotel we could stay at and also what beach should we head for. Heard tell of Fenit???

Leave Fenit after you! It isn't all it's cracked up to be and with such a short window you will find better fishing else where. If it's reasonably soon and the weather is calm there will still be plenty of good pollack and wrasse available on the rock marks on Slea Head. Inside Dingle Harbour by the lighthouse can be excellent for thornbacks with the possibility of mullet by the bridge at Milltown. A night session should see excellent conger in the marina in the town itself, a 40+ is not unreasonable by any means although because they're targetted so much more the eels have become alot 'cuter' in the last couple of years

Trabeg beach produces good thornbacks, flounders etc. and even the odd plaice in calm conditions with bass in a moderate surf. Plugging wise the rocks from Anascaul river to Inch produce bass but haven't fished very well for me this year, the western side of Minard bay is similar ground but not alot of it. Will pm you details of where was producing during the pairs a few weeks ago might give a better indication of where is fishing well...

If you are staying in Dingle you are close enough to Trabeg, there is also ventry Harbour check out the fishing spots on the website. you could also go over the connor pass to fish brandon bay
try the rocks in fermoyle at low tide.

Liamo & Fenitbob will put you right, local knowledge cannot be beaten.

FWIW I stayed in the Smerwick Harbour Hotel in Ballydavid, (Baile na Gall, Don't make the mistake I did of looking for a sign with Baile Daithi on it). Great Brekkie nice rooms and very reasonable, even if the night porter used to look at me like I had 2 heads when I'd walk to my car @ 5.30am to go plugging.

As Liamo said under the road @ Inch for Bass, easy access from the coastal erosion works, saw some literally giant Salmon/Seatrout jumping here and a few bass hitting baitfish under the road.

My favourite mark was behind the famine cottages at Dunbeg, had some huge wrasse there (just touching specimen 5lb) that I caught on live hardbacks under a float. It's fairly easy access too, just climb the gate of the field before the cottages and head stright down to the rock platforms, over the wall at the end.

i was going to post some adivce but it has all been said.

dingle all the way, in dingle bay you will have a chance of ray and conger, have had ray to double figures and conger to over 30lbs here. then trabeg for a bit of beach fishing, or ventry to be close to a pub. rock fishing as alby said will see you into wrasse and pollock. but for ease of fishing bring some lug, sandeel and macks and fish the bay and one of the beaches

tons of good guest houses and hotels. if the boss is paying try the skellig in dingle, you can catch ray from directly behind it and its a two minute walk into town and plenty of pubs and night life

Thanks Guys,

Excellent advice from all - we have settled on 4/5 Nov.

Just one other question - where can we get bait - is there any local tackle shops selling crab/lug etc?
We wont have time to spend getting it so are willing to allow the company to pay for it

as far a si know there are not any shops there that sell lug or crab, so you may want to bring some. you can dig it but i am guessing that would not be high on your list.

garveys in the centre of dingle sell frozen mack, sandeel,squid and razor as does bob moss in ballydavid.

you might be able to pick up worm or crab in tralee.

personally i tned to bring my own for the first couple of days and then dig if i run out

the report in total sea angler was trabeg. the ray they caught were fairly small, up to 5lbs but trabeg can be inconsistent for the ray.

you might get frozen crab, and lug in landers in tralee. give them a ring.
