Cracker Mate!!!!!!
Must have been that magic rag!!!
That is a real good story and a real surprise to land a conger off that beach.
I'm due to fish it next week - hopefully some of the same.....
I take it that you were onlt using light beach gear and not conger rigs. The clean ground allowed you to land that beast - any other type of ground and you were b*gger*d.
Well done mate 8)

Hairy, I had the same encounter a couple of years ago at Cushendun. Rod was going mental with whiting and then it took off toward the sea, managed to pull and haul for approx 10 mins and out came a fair size eel. It looked to be something similar to the one you caught. I only managed to get it to the tide line though. It was holding onto a whiting until the very last minute and then it just spat it out and off it went. I was on my own that night and whenever I mentioned it to others they mostly laughed.

I wish you could use the lighter gear when fishing for them over the ruff stuff , some fun i tell ya..... 8) .................Might be worth bringing down heavier gear the next time for a spot of livebaiting  .....Theres a spot for congers at the side of beach of the rocks , i will be paying it a visit soon to have a crack at them
