Reel Maintenance (fixed spool)

#1 Post by merv147 »

well ladies and gents it’s coming in to the winter and the summer has all but gone so what I normally do at this time of year is clean and service my reels its not a big job but one that has to be done none the less. The first thing I do is take all my line of spool if you use braid and you only have 6 months use out of it then leave it on it will go another 6 months before you have to reverse it. Clean the spool the best thing for cleaning on the market is wd40 spray it on to a cloth then clean the spool. And the next thing I do is just use Vaseline put some on the centre cog and some on the in side of the spool then give it a turn or too and then put the top on the reel if it’s a front drag that is. And that’s all it takes relay that will be your reel running as good as new for another 6 months you can use oil but I find that the reel works better with the Vaseline in it
