Has anybody tried any of the marks along the down coast with any success.

yes i fish st johns point to portaferry it very good at the moment :D :D

Good wee marks around Orlock Point outside Donaghadee too.

have to agree with bulldug. at orlock this year i've caught mackerel, pollock, coalie, dogfish, wrasse, conger and cod. also donaghadee pier starts fishing well for codling, whiting, pouting, coalies and dogfish at the mo thru till jan. if u fish at helens bay off the rocks close to the beach u can still catch mackerel, whiting and big dogfish. caught an lsd last week and without weighing it, it looked a good 4lb weight. often wondered what weight they grow to.

theres that word mentioned again 'helens bat'..........how far out do you reach the dogs?

if u fished from the beach i'd say u could catch them at 80m or so. but as i say there is a few rocks that get u out a bit and a good lob is enough to hit into a doggie. also there is still a chance of catching a sea trout even though its getting late in the season. in a conversation with ronald he recalled how good a spot helens bay used to be for catching spurdog but the driftnetting wiped them out. but i believe there is still some numbers there to be caught. give it a blast hc, draw ur own conclusion.

im going to give it a go this winter 8) ....im sure the whiting and puting off belfast lough will keep the rod tips rattling :shock:

I have fished portaferry recently. Its a lovely part of the world. Definitely going to give it some sport this winter

Was down along that coast line (ards penn) and from Ballywalter to Portavogie I seen lots of little strands...they looked like they would be very good for flounder?
