Bad News On Ballycastle

Alright lads,

Went to Ballycastle last night for a Conger Bash....

A new gate has been put on the pier making it impossible to get to the Pier Head without a boat or a 300yds scramble over scary rocks....

Not a happy Bunny....

:evil: :evil: they are big bad as* boulders, hard enough keeping the balance on them without a handfull of gear :evil:

Really disappointed to hear that GG! Was looking forward to a chance at the big one again on Sat evening :evil:

Not as disgusted as me mate.

We ended up in Portrush where I proceeded to blank and lost 3 lots of gear!!!!

Sean also fell in a large rock pool which stunk to high heaven :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: but at least he caught two pollack :oops: :oops:

probably due to some people fishing it ruining it for everyone else no doubt..... i will try to find out more on the subject and will report back here once i hear the reasons for the changes.

Thanks Phil.

I wonder if the Council would be open to issuing permits to fish the pier (as they do on many English Piers)?

I suspect that some messy anglers/kids have screwed it up for all of us here.....

This was a real good mark and held some very big conger....... Just ask N&G!!!

Was up round that area today seeing family and forgot to ask if there was anything in local paper about it, DOH ! :oops:

I'd hazard a guess that the gate has been put there on Health & Safety grounds. Council wouldn't want to be liable for someone being injured on the pier etc..

I was wondering, has anyone heard if the pier has been reopened to anglers?

Does anyone know who you would approach to see if it is feasible to get access to the pier again? even on a club basis.

i stopped by on sunday hoping to fish it for some conger and pollock. and the gate is still firmly closed :(

hope they re-open it always wanted to try it and when i do its bloody closed lol
species so far 2007 (18....)
Conger, Codling, Coalfish, Shore Rockling, Dab, Flounder, Dogfish, 3 beard rocking, Pollack, Whiting, Pouting, Red cod, Poor Cod, Tadpole fish, Short and Long splined sea sculpin, TopKnot, Cukcoo Ray,

Targets: fish over 10lb, eel over 20lb (came VERY close almost :( )

You could try emailing Moyle District council on info@moyle-council.org as moyle council are the local authority for Ballycastle harbour.

i might be wrong in saying it but isnt one of the mortons that trawl etc up there harbour master....might be worth asking even in their fish and chip shop thats there??

I think the Morton's use the smaller harbour with the slipway right behind their shop, though they may have a key for access to the other harbour.
