One of my rods has a penn moveable reel seat thats reel clamp is getting stuck. Just to avoid confusion I can move it's position on the rod its clamping and unclamping the reel mechanism. When I mess around with it long enough it will move and then gets stuck again. Any ideas on what to do?
The rod has a foam handle and butt cap. How should I remove these as I want to take it off. I don't want the foam handle as I cast reel low.

honestly
dump it. they are big and cumbersome. go for one the new small abu griplocks.
i had the penns for a while and ended up using mole grips. they get dirty and need cleaned all the time.
take it of and wash in warm water. use a toothbrush to clean it. dry and then lightly oil.

As a personnel preference I like to moveable reel seat as it allows a rod to be cast high or low. The rod has a 24mm diameter and I'm not sure if the smallest abu reel seat at over 25mm would fit. The other thing with the abu reel seat is it has a bad reputation for slipping under pressure. The penn is bulkier but I don't find this an issue and it has the a better locking mechanisim to the rod. I wouldn't see why I'd hacksaw off the reel seat (other than penance for my sins) as long as I remove the foam (which I want to do anyway) and butt cap the reel seat will come off quiet easily.
After looking at this further the metal section on plastic bolt has broken so reeling up is easy but reeling down I have to keep pushing the metal insert down so it doesn't get stuck. It was more than likely due to getting a belt off the rocks which I can't blame the reel seat for.

ive abu grip lock seats on all my beach casters. what ive done is increased the diameter of the but bu putting on another layer of shrink tude. have never had 1 slip or twist. one thing about them is that they were designed for use with shrink tube and will never grip a glossy finished rod
