High water 12.25
Deciding to chance the estuary with light winds and heavy rain forecast we set out from Kilrush at 9.30
We were concerned that the mackerel may have left the estuary, but as it turned out there was no shortage of joeys. Indeed we caught about 30 joeys but no "proper mackerel"
We set out for moneypoint to fish the last hour of the flood and over slack water for bass and conger
Again no bass. I'm starting to believe they are just an urban myth

However, on the hour of slack water, the conger came out to play,and in a hectic hour we landed 9 to 20lbs, lost 4 others and missed a few runs
One of the fish we dropped fought for 10 minutes under the boat without us getting a look at it.Its been gettings steadily bigger over night I can tell you .Amazingly, as though a switch had been flipped, the bite ended

any chance you were whizzing up round loughill on your boat that evening, just that i was on kilteery pier and saw a boat similiar to yours flying around? BTW was it just me or was the water a very unusual shade of brown that night? i was guesing floodwaters

Yeah, we ran up past kilteery that evening for a look
The sailing types tell me that the majority of the current flows out of the estuary on the limerick side, and that stronger tides are evident as a result there. You could see a dividing line across the middle of the estuary where the water changed from green to brown, and I also thought floodwater
