Not quite sure I have 10 and in no particular order :
1. Catching and releasing my one and only specimen bass
2. First bass on a popper - wasnt sure they would work
3. Cathing more bass than a "bass guide" (No surprise really)
4. Best session approx 30 bass in space of an hour from "My mark"
5. My first ever bass when I was 11 - 20 years ago, 2 and a half pound
6. Releasing hundreds of bass over the 20 years, only kept 5 and for humane reasons
7. Catching the specimen bass in the very same spot I caught my first bass - was it the same fish..? Fairytale stuff....
Carlsberg dont do bass men, but if they did........

Guiding
regarding the point of guides
I think you will find that most guides if they are doing their jobs correctly will always catch less fish than their customers. Thats because they are busy assisting, encouraging, helping, and informing the person they are with to ensure they catch more fish..... i'm assuming you're use of inverted commas is significant.

Bass fishing
Bass fishing is an addiction. Waterford it the county for it.Hopefully, the great recovery that the bass population has made will be maintained for future generations.

Sorry Jim, wasnt meant to cause offence to anyone. The guide in particular, who's name I wont mention, was superb and got us fish on a day when I myself wouldnt have fished and in fact was probably the worst conditions for a bass, flat calm, sun splitting the skies and 4.30 in the afternoon. He showed us fantastic hospitality providing lunch in his own house and moved us on numerous occasions to keep us on the fish.
I put the comment in there merely as a bit of humour, thats all.

Guides
No need for apologies Eoghan - i think sometimes guides get a lot of stick that's often un-neccessary (admittedly a few deserve it). Its a tough job of many dimensions and I was probably just defending the guy a bit.
best regards and keep fishing
Jim

HA HA ....Liam there was no shame in blanking that day, you were fishing with two propper bass men. Besides we needed someone to carry the sandwiches etc......
I'll give you another lesson next week in Kerry..! (If your girlfriend gives you the sign off)

And to be fair I was always a dawn and dusk bass man. I will definitly fish more in the afternoon at selected marks for Bass as I now know they can be caught.
One of my favourite type of marks in this regard would be a very rocky mark at low tide on the flood using poppers.

Hi eoghan
i would primarily be a specimen angler so my favourite fish tend to be those that i have had success in catching a few biggies of.
top would be pike, trout, wrasse, and perch.
then catfish,tench,carp,pollock,bass,rudd,ray, barbel.
then hybrids,roach,mullet,small sharks (huss,spurs etc)
then the rest.

I can see the attraction with that alright. I guess its just whatever floats your boat so to speak.
I have done a bit of pike fishing before, my best was just over 15Ib, cracking fight on my light spinning rod.
I have also tried winter fishing for cod and most other species at one stage or another but to be honest I just love catching Bass. I think its the challenge more than anything else. They can be so illusive.
On the right tackle they fight superb.

yeah i think bass and pike fishing are quite similar in a lot of ways. similar type of predator i guess and the methods really cross over.
if you list the methods for pike : bait fishing, live baiting (in other countries) , lure fishing, fly fishing, popper fishing...etc , thsy can all be used for bass in pretty much the same style and tackle.
fighting qualities would be quite similar too, with warm weather pike anyway.
now if bass af 20lbs were common i might have to rethink things. but being elsewhere than the bass mecca of kildare  might help that too
i have had my best bass and pike on lures and spinning gear and both were good fun.
