Lads
a lot of us seem the be staying in the anchor, port stewart, so maybe we should do our drinking there.
Also if anyone is camping, (!!) it may be the spot..

Its just occurred to me that apparently amidst the slagging, drinking and relic hunting theres apparently some fishing to be done next weekend too...

Having never, and presuming most people from the south havent, fished Benone Strand (or anywhere in the North for that matter) what I was wondering was if some kind soul who knew the lie of the land could give us a rough guide as to what to target, what baits to bring, what rigs to use. Post it up in public so we can all see.... no selective PMing to one side please :D Bigphil? Andy?

Incidentally, Hairy, what kind of numbers have you got mate as it looks like theres quite a few arriving from the South...... :D

Hi Pete

To be honest its not a mark I fish a lot , however I will pass on my limited knowledge.
Naturally i'm totally unbiased, and due to the language difficultys I'll explain to each group seperatley :D

Lads form the South

Benone Strand is a rough ground mark, so bring heavy rods , reels loaded with 25lb line ,rotten bottom links etc
Your main target will be conger, tope and blue shark
8/0 pulley rigs would be the main rig used, 200g uptide leads, mackeral flappers for bait. Cast to the horizon
Try tipping the flappers with stilton cheese. or pre soaking them in vinegar.
Hope this helps

Lads from the North

Alrite..what bout ye ? if yeese fancy a swallie thers a wee pub on the corner of the way in
Benone is a shallow surf beach, best suited (wind permitting) to Long rods, with fixed spools and braid. Fishing is at your feet, long traces and small hooks. The only bait is rag, tipped with mack, squid, razor . Target species are flatfish.
Match tactics. while in normal matches, kicking over the opponents tripod may be frowned upon, its perfectly acceptable practice on Benone, as is adding laxative to their tea/coffee etc. while over talking to your opponent distract him/her by throwing sand in their face, then liberally apply fish repellant to their baits.
Hope this helps
