New Mixed ground rod

#1 Post by Donagh »

Currently I have a penn ppt sidewinder and penn villian. I'm thinking of getting a new rod instead of the villian as its bit to soft for the tide runs/ground I fish for my liking and I just don't feel I'm in contact with the lead when casting. I was thinking of getting a matching sidewinder but I want to look at alternatives. Most of my pleasure fishing involved very large baits and 60z leads with huge distance less important but I'd like something I can bend and that will cussion a ray that decides to dive. I'd prefer a 13' 6" to 14' as I cast reel low. At the cheaper end of the scale the anyfish anywhere big beach caught my eye and the supercast seems to be popular here but I'd be thinking abouth the rough ground model. I'd also like to consider going up market for zippy or a conoflex but I don't know much about them has anyone any advise at which one of these I should be looking at. The only one which caught my eye was the LT 14.

ive been looking at the anyfish anywhere big beach or possibly the rock rod, although i tink it might be a little bit of over kill for what fishing i'm doing, so i'l prob buy the big beach. also if your looking at the heavier end of the scale the conoflex anibus 6oz.cast one belonging to a friend of mine and its an absolutely beautiful rod to cast with, exceptionally powerfulion its lower reaches if you can compres it enough, while still posessing enough tip action to show shy initial bites from ray or huss. pity i cant afford one. he said that it was comfortably the best rod he has fished with.think i'l buy one of the big beaches, looks like a stunning finish and apperently they seem to be getting rave reviews.

Donagh, it may be worth a look at the Conoflex Nemesis Plus SLR. I was using a MK1 Appollo for the rough stuff which is great but found it didn't have the sensitivity when required. The trouble was if roving in matches and ended up on a beach or fishing for smaller species the Appollo was too stiff. I'm not a huge hitter in the casting stakes but the SLR is much easier to compress and far more sensitive. Still copes with rough stuff and lobbing big baits and 6oz lead but gives you a bit feel when going lighter and fishing clearer ground.

Just done a search on the site under 'nemesis' and there's quite a few views on it been discussed in the past which might help you.

Thanks for the replies. The annubus sounds like it would be to much for me to handle but I''l see if I can have a go of the Nemesis as I know Neilus has one. The describtion in the veals of the AA rock rod sounds like an out and out beast and unfortunately I wouldn't be catching the fish to justify it but I'm still interested in the AA big beach. I'll have to find someone with that rod and have a go of it.

cast with the big beach yesterday and its a beautiful rod to cast with. definately cast 160yards and appears to have a nice tip action. think its the perfect rod for my ray and bullhuss fishing
