The good thing about your local tackle shops is that at least you can look at what you are buying, it's too easy to go by manufacturer descriptions and end up with something well below expectations.

If you could stretch your budget a bit mate, the Penn Surfblaster range are available as a combo with the Supermag fairly reasonably. Something like the Guvnor or the outasight may suit. They usually come in around the 200 mark or so but you will have a top set up for the cash that you should get years out of with easily the best beach reel on the market attached.

If its a Multi you want, dont even look near any others or even consider them IMHO. For durability, performance and ease of use, its near impossible to look past the 525s, either mag or supermag. You wont go wrong with one of those.

Surfblaster outasite 525 combo.Bought one earlier in the year its the best £200 I've spent in a while.I've cast 150yrd + with this rod over grass (and I cant cast  ) Also a great fishing rod with good bite detection. It definitely has the thumbs up from me. :D And as for the 525 Supermag great reel the only fault I find with them that the mag slider tends to move quite easily on them but this wouldn't stop me from ever buying another one.

penn powerstix combo £135 i have 2 of the original penn extremes and i love them for all types of beachcasting so i recently bought a powerstix 15ft for £50 from southend angling center and its a lovely smooth rod and easy to use ,the 12ft or 13ft re a bit stiffer than the 15 and would cover 99% of your fishing
if it cant get its jaws round a 1/0 its not worth catching [ mullet excluded ]

Tricky question this one as I feel that different rods suit different people. You'll be up and running alright for 200 bucks but when buying from mail order you're not actually holding the thing before you buy it. I suggest going to your local dealer and picking a rod up then seeing what offers you can get from mail order. Mainwarings are also a good outlet. What I'm saying is that there's no point in buying a rod that proves to be too stiff for your style of casting. Good luck.
