Bangor pier latest report

#1 Post by Ronald »

People:myself and davy

Duration:4hrs

Tide:lw about 19.30hrs

Weather:calm /misty

Bait:Mackerel

Rigs:conger traces and single hook paternoster

Results:2 congers

Catch and Release:: yes

Report:Headed down the pier after rockling and conger ,now that the mackerel bashers have left it's great ,no more stupid questions and no one telling you to kill everything you catch cos the chinese will buy it !
Rockling weren't playing ball tonight with nothing at all on the mini rods

:? strange as the last time i fished we managed quite a few fish .
Conger were a different matter though with 4/5 runs and both of us losing decent fish in the boulders I did manage one conger of 19lb and another of 4lb so i was happy enough

It takes the heavy stuff to haul the congers out if the holes ,I had the boat rod bent further than i thought it could go on the fish i lost  and it was still going backwards into it's rocky lair
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

People:myself and davy

Duration:4hrs

Tide:lw about 20.15hrs

Weather:drizzle and light s wind

Bait:mackerel

Rigs:conger trace and single hook paternoster

Results:1 conger

Catch and Release:: Yes/No

Report:Headed back down pier after conger after sucess the previous night ,really disappointing. davy got the only fish of the night with a conger of 15.5lb which is not to be sneezed at but after the amount of fish feeding the previous night we had high expectations .

Fekkin' brilliant guys, where about on the pier were you fishing? Inside the harbour or on those weird shaped doofurs on the seaward side of the harbour?
Looks like those things could give you a nasty one if you were half asleep too!

you`ll get the congers on both sides of the pier but the back is the best and it can only be fished at low water, expect to lose gear and fish

I'm taking my 9 yo son fishing on Bangor Pier on Sunday Morning.

Any tips to pass on?

small hooks, weights and baits, dangle over the edge at the steps were the pier bends, in all likelyhood you will catch a load of tiddlers, this is the limit of my knowledge. The back of the pier is too rough ground to really make it worthwhile with a kid. Then again i know nothing. much. :(

Thanks Livid.

Somebody mentioned Wrasse below the platform. I'm assuming rag below a float would be in order.

you'll get plenty of wrasse of the platform on rag not massive maybe a couple of pound at best just fish about 10/20 feet out from the rocks the corner to the right of the platform isn't to bad .
DONT FEED THE SEAL ,he'll wreck the fishing if he starts getting feed as he just hangs around waiting then

People[/b]:myself , davy and lee

Duration:20.30hrs until 01.30hrs

Tide:lw 00.15hrs

Weather:flat calm, clear, quarter moon

Bait:Mackerel

Rigs:conger traces

Results:2 congers to 13.5lbs
Stuck a post in the clubs and meets section to see if anyone wanted to head down after the conger for a while ,lee was the only taker though jonny called down for a natter for an hour .Lee arrived just as i hooked a small conger on the mini rod ,got it to the surface before the line snapped think it was only about 3lb .
Davy was next with a conger of 12lbish on mackerel ,it was very quite on the mini fish with very few bites.after an hour we moved to another spot further around the point of the pier were lee got a good run which produced a conger of 13.5lb unluckly for it a trace of feathers snagged up in the kelp wrapped itself around the conger as it done the usual trick ofspinning quickly , after a bit of deliberation I decided to hop onto a rock which was partly submerged to see if i could pull the fish free from the tangle of line ,got it free and passed the fish up to lee who turned to walk back up the pier to unhook the conger but fell down one of the gratings
A good night craic even though i blanked and i think we might have shown lee a new way to fish for conger

Good to meet you guys.I'm just sorry I wasn't able to bring any gear with me and join in.

Lee I hope you're OK after your fall  .I don't think there are many people that have or do fish the back of the pier that haven't done exactly the same thing especially at night.
