Hello there cortaz. Try any of those oriental mini markets in the city. The squid is of quality fit for human consumption (apparently) and half the price of the stuff in the tackle shops.
Is it really cheaper there? My uncle works in a chinese food factory in Belfast and i brought this up before with him, although he knows nothing about fishing etc, he rekoned it would be a fair bit more expensive with his place?
yeah i have found the asian shops to be sell them for about 50-75% of the prices in the tackle shops (for whole squid). that goes for sardines too for pike and prawns etc
cortaz there is a small fishing shop in tramore called bobbys. Its right opposite freddies amusements. He sells boxs of frozen calamarie. Cheap enough as well. Otherwise you might get it off the two lads in Angling and Outdoor.
Bagged that Big bass on the left with Calamari Squid from Moore Street, have caught pretty much everything on the stuff - not surprising, tastes lovely :P
My feeling is if you just using a hollowed out squid then no. Whole squid has a sent.. I've caught conger, bull huss, thornback ray, very large rockling and doggies on it. All fish that are not tradition sight feeders. I'd have most confidence using it over rough ground. The hollowed out body is a must for wrapping baits for fishing crab infested waters.
hi cortaz,i used to fish for plaice until i got my specimen, then i moved on to bass.i used to buy the squid from tesco fish counter,it was strips that looked like the calamari rings.hopes this helps ivan
Whole Squid or in strips I've found each work equally well - strips for the smaller targets obviously. Regarding Scent - I think it must give off some scent judging from the smell off hands (:-)
