Hooking mackeral heads/flappers query

Just a query folks

If congers and other type of fish eat their prey head first then why do we hook the bait through the nose? surely the hook would be around the wrong way when we strike into our fish... Would it not be better to turn the bait around and hook it from the other end with the point facing back? Just a thought I was playing around with.

the flipant answer is that is its the easiest way to do it.
theres alot of bone there so it holds well and the point of the hook is clear.
if the conger did take it head first the barb of the hook is pointing into the mouth when you strike it would get twisted around and hopefully hook the fish.

thats just my opinion I have only caught one in the last 12 months.

congers just seem to suck the bait in and aren`t bothered if its head first or not.

A Predatory fish will chase its prey from either ambush or open water, When its unfortunate victim is caught from behind (Tail end) - The Predatory fish will grab hold of it,
And then it will violently shake its head in order to break its victims back.
(Just like a Dog catching a rabbit)
