My so called Wicklow bass session last night

#1 Post by Eoghan »

A little beach/rock mark in Wicklow.
Perfect conditions, 2-3 ft waves rolling in. Clear water. Tide rising for the last 3 hours. Had peeler crab, mussel and mackerel.

Fished two rods. One at 20-30 yards with a single 6/0 heavily baited.
One at no more than 10-15 feet with two snoods with 2/0 hooks and a plain bomb weight.

Was sure I was going to get a bass, never gets to look better.

Results :
7 flounder and Dab. Damn pesky flounders. Largest approx 1Ib and smallest about the size of a hand.
What a waste of bait...!

Interestingly as the tide drew close to high water the feeding stopped.
This coincided with a strong run that picked up ona beach that normally has no run at all.
Top 3 lure caught bass 2017 :
10Ib 5 oz
9Ib 2oz
8Ib 11oz

To be fair its hard work in Dublin/Wicklow too. Allot of work required for little reward sometimes.
U need to be from Wexford to Kerry for most of the best bass fishing but I dont envy you at all. Must be tough up there.

I just got into Bass fishing when I was 11 and it has just stuck.

Sorry to say I looked at the rain last night and chickened out.

Weather and tides look ideal for some 6am plugging as the sun comes up. Maybe Friday ...
