People:Me

Duration:3:30pm till 7pm

Tide:low around 3pm

Weather: Moderate westerly, sunshine/showers

Bait:sand eel

Rigs:1 hook standard surf rig

Results: 2 bass guessing 4lb and a 2 and 1/2 lb bass

Report: Gull action was far out and hard to reach with my bass rod/525 setup due to being unused to it and wind. Both fish were got with a wading as far as I dare and a good OHT. Tried a bit of spinning after at couple of locations with no luck.

Hi Will,

The match making festival will on in Lisdoonvarna so I'd be careful not to put your name to any lists  . That was my second ever time fishing a clare surf beach so I don't think I can be of much help but I would just follow the guide on the central and shannon fisheries board web sites and then fish a beach with a surf and that isn't infested with weed and even worse surfers. One thing I spent a fair deal of time spent writing you and others emails last year on how the estuary was fishing and didn't get any report of how the areas fished. :(

Nice one Donagh,

I was fishing a Surf Beack myself on the 29th. Didn't manage a Bass. There was a lot of gulls working off the beach about 200 - 250 yeards out. The were diving for the 4 hours I was there. I only had a few lug and didn't get any Bass. I got a nice Dab on my first cast though. I didn't have the camera unpacked so I didn't get a picture. I'd say it was over a pound and about 32 - 34cm. A PB for me. :D

Thanks lads for you comments. Just to let you know the picture taken was the smaller bass I didn't bother reaching into to my waders to the get my mobile for the first larger one.
