loop head ,bridge of ross 19-26th aug

#1 Post by Ronald »

People:Myself and Helen

Duration:couple of hours each evening for 6 days

Tide:mostly dropping ,though got a day withing rising tide.

Weather:

Bait:rag,mackerel,hard back crab

Rigs:mainly single hook paternoster and pulley rigs

Results:ballan wrasse,cuckoo wrasse,conger ,bull huss ,pollack ,mackerel .
All fish returned alive bar the mackerel which we kept for bait dinner ,catch and release when possible .

Report:I was down for a weeks holidays with the other half ,so managed to get a few hours fishing between sight seeing

A big thankyou to rob, donagh and ross for the pointers on were to fish ,i just wish i'd had more time to try all the spots suggested ,the cottage we had was right on the shore so it was tempting to just fish from the rocks outside the door each evening ,all i managed to get of them was mackerel so we drove to the bridge of ross so i could have a crack at some big ballans ,didn't get many fish but all the wrasse were 2lb plus except for helens cuckoo at 1lb ,managed a couple of small conger up to 4lb and a wee bull huss of 3lb also a 3 bearded rockling about a pound ,I could have spent the whole week fishing around here as there's loads of wrassey looking spots .
I just missed meeting Ross in the tackle shop on friday ,I didn't realise he was i front of me then when i was talking to the guy behind the counter about wrasse he said i'd just missed the local expert

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Good stuff. Always nice to hear a report after sending on advise but I'd say you got better info off the others.

Is that that cliff to the right hand side of Mack bashers point at the Bridges? I've seen them at that carry on there before alright. Complete lunacy. All that in pursuit of mackerel.....

My missus had a lucky escape a couple of years ago fishing from where the MBs congregate, a double figure pollack grabbed her Hokkais, went for a dive and nearly took her in with it. I had to grab her and take the rod off her.

I thought it was the guy you saw fishing off loop head, When My folks told me they saw someone I had a panic attack when I thought of the slopey shale ground to the edge!

And it was not me I was joking ......... I have a freckle on my lip which this guy obviously doesn't (ok I will get me coat  )
