Didn't get as much fishing done as I would have liked but it was worth it with a (just under 9lb - specimen) 8) Pollack in N.Clare. He is still out there! No camera and my phone battery had just run out
Thought I cracked the Wrasse thing floating dead Rag at the rock face (landed and lost a few 8) ) but was back the next day doing the same thing with frozen Lug and got none :(
Fished the cliffs outside Kilkee for bait and Mackerel treats for the family no fun at weekends full of Balts and Poles who have no idea how to fish straight or are using 2oz weights in a gale and you spend your time not fishing to avoid tangles  Everyone has a right to be there but some should learn how to do it properly.........Aaaaaaannnyyway I caught a load of grey pollacky looking things with slight ridges of protruding spines along the lateral line, a local man told me they were known as Spanish Mackerel (nothing like one I caught at sea in OZ). They look like nothing in the species guide anyone have any idea?

Sounds like you were catching scad (horse mackerel) they are a grey/silver colour with a scalley ridge along the lateral line . Iwas down that area myself last week got some nice wrasse at the bridges of ross ,also got some cracking photos of a guy fishing the cliffs at loop head ,he must have been 100 feet above the water  dont know if he caught much .
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Scad Indeed, you often get them there mixing around with the macks, especially as it starts to get dark. Good little scrappers on light gear but thats about the height of it. They can be a nuisance at times. I have seen some super examples of extreme fishingout there from time to time. Lads tying themselves on in gales looking for mackerel.... Muppets.
Fluff chucking is the new black..... Rampant Wreckfish is a fly angler in denial

I thought they were Scad untill I saw the pics in the species page and now after your description I believe they are. I think the shot in the species link is a Smoked Mackerel  They were tough little scrapers and when I dropped them the 40 odd meters back into the sea they swam off pretty lively too 8).
My folks were at loop head the Aug weekend and told me of some guys fishing there wonder if it was the same guys?
