Bass galore in Kerry

#1 Post by SeanP »

This time last week I still had not managed to catch a bass since moving over to Kerry nearly 4 years ago

Starting last Monday at last the first one fell to a dexter wedge from the boat :D

Image
not looking as happy as i should because i dropped the camera off the cuddy roof - self timer on as i was on my own then - donkey!

Then the following night me and bigcol thought it was time for a shore session, armed with 3 hook flappers and 1/2doz macks off we went.
We got off to the usual start see through flatties, then a few bigger ones, then colm had a small turbot, damn i was thinking maybe we weren't going to switch venues and have a go for seatrout (which i was hoping earlier as we had a report of a 4lber being caught) as bites were coming in well, then i had a decent rattle and yes another bass even thought it was small, that was 2 in as many day's well chuffed!

Image

Well that was it now, it was going to be the full allocation of time here now till 1am!

One cast brought in a nice 2 up shot of 2lb and 4lb,

off out went the trusty 3 hook flapper and still using the size 4 hooks, just got back in position holding the rod and BANG nearly had the rod ripped out of my hand

Could this session get any better i thought?????

Oh boy did it!!! this beauty tipped the scales at 8lb
Image

Surely that's got to be it now i thought, but no a painted ray was next on the list!

Image

Now it was Colm's turn at long last!

Image

Total tally was Colm: 2 bass,4 turbot,8 flounder,1 doggie

Me:8 bass ,6 flounder,1 painted ray :D

All on Mackerel

Best shore session so far!

Sean,

I had a session like that in Donegal just 3 or 4 years ago. Then all the bass disappeared. I haven't seen one this year

Yes it was a cracking session. :D :D Conditions were just about perfect.Mind you we have invested some time at this mark exploring different areas and finally found what we were looking for.A big sand bar about 40 yards out.It was absolutly humming with bass and turbut .
The look of pure joy on Sean's face as he pulled in fish after fish after waiting for 4 years for his first bass was classic.

That's some session. Good return for all the effort that you've been putting in. That 8lber lookes like it should have been more. Skinny fish?

Did they go back in?

Great fishing guys but im afraid now that the poachers will be out after seeing the location of where those bass were caught the beaches are bad enough for fishing in Kerry as it is this year..................
