Co. Louth Coastline, 22nd Aug

#1 Post by Marty Harrison »

People: Myself and a mate

Duration: 09:00 - 21:30

Tide:High - Low - High

Weather: Broken cloud, Light WNW breeze & warm. Water condition clear to slightly coloured

Bait: Artificial

Rigs: Various surface and subsurface lures and flies

Results: 1 Bass 5lb, 1 Mackerel

Report: Spent the day exploring the coastline with the fly and spinning rods for likely looking spots. Mr Bass obliged in a perfect looking spot mid afternoon about 1/2 way through an ebbing tide to a silver Kilty lure in a foot or 2 of water over a mix of sand weed and boulder. Great scrap was well chuffed esp as I didn't have to travel to the other end of the country for it. We also saw 2 other fish one of which was a sim size in the same spot but they spooked and disappeared. Had a mackerel on the flyrod just before leaving this evening. Great days exploring with lots of new spots to try at diff stages of the tide. Look forward to getting back

Well done Marty,

That's a nice Bass allright. That's some session you put in though. Were you trying various spots and driving to others or were you on foot for most of the day?

Well done again,

Kev

Hi Kev,

The day was a mixture of driving to spots then walking/wading to get a good look around for likely looking areas. Absolutly knackered today mate, must have waded a few miles over mixed ground never mind the distance done on terra firma. All worth it when you get a Bass though :D

Excellent stuff. Like you said well worth it. There are many spots in County Lought I've been thinking off myself over the years but just never had the time to put in a session like that. When I've got that much time I tend to drive to Waterford.
