Benone Strand + Waterfoot Pier 15/08/06

#1 Post by Livid »

People: Myself, Drew

Duration: 10am - 2pm? Can't remember, then Waterfoot

Tide: High at around 11am at Benone, 4ish at Waterfoot

Weather: Awful, just awful, i hated it.

Bait: Mack, Rag

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 2 small flounder each

Report:

First time i fished Benone and just happy not to blank to be honest, the weather was terrible rain wise at times but thankfully the proper gear held off the worst of it. All flounder were small but they all count. After we left Benone we headed, or at least tried to head to Waterfoot, we took a rather scenic route, in other word went round in circles for a while. I didn't bother fishing at Waterfoot at all, i was wrecked and it barely stopped raining the entire time, Drew did well catching Plaice, Codling and a couple of other we skitters while dangling, he got a double shot of a plaice and codling which was good. I'll post some pictures up later.

I would also like to add that the next Miss Northern Ireland works in a wee chippy in Carnlough.

I find that very hard to believe mate. I lived in Carnlough every summer from 9 to 15 years of age and still frequent the chippies when I am passing through - were you drinking and therefore have your beer goggles on?

I've seen some nice bass come of the rocks behind the old swimming pool in castle-rock,you need to fish it on a rising tide in the evening.
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Better late than never eh? As Livid said the Downhill stage of this trip left a lot to be desired, But at least we got a couple of fish each.

Waterfoot was a different Story with a Plaice First Cast, It came to Ragworm on a 2 Hook Clipped Down Rig, Next on the Agenda was a Small Dab, again to Plain Rag, it quietened down after that, Only got the odd small knock, The pier cleared after about an hour and I moved up a Bit, Still nothing much happened until about 6pm when the G5 (Anyone will tell you its a Beast of a Rod) Gave a Savage double tap, I hit it pretty quick and was rewarded a Codling/Plaice double Shot, Happy days

bass have been taken on almost all of the beaches around the londonderry/antrim coastline, the most regularly fished is benone/downhill but castlerock and portstewart also throw up their fair share too.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

can you share any more info on portstewart?
its right on my doorstep and since i got the bug a month ago ive spent all 4 fruitless attempts on benone/downhill. I am told that the area immediatley to the right as you drive on is a good spot towards the rocks?
do you know of many been caught there?

spoke with a fella tonight while out for a walk on downill with gf, he was saying that there has been salmon nets along the coast for the past 3-4 weeks?
