Hi all,
I am a regular in Scotland and thankfully my job takes me all over the Uk soi tend to take my gear with me.
i am staying in the marine hotel in ballycastle on the above dates so will be fishing late afternoon till early morning on all 3 nights.
I could do with some help in the following areas:
1. Where to dig bait?
2. What species are kicking about off the beach and Pier area at ballycatle ?
3. Should i travel further for the big fish if so where.
4. I tend to use pulleys in rocky areas and 2 hook flappers on beach.
Due to flight crap i will only be bringing one 13 ft penn rod and 1 spinning rod.
i would like to catch anything that is not on my 2k6 species list below.
2006 Species
Brown Trout (Fresh-water)
Ballan Wrasse
Coal Fish
Crab
Dab
Fresh Water Eel (Fresh-water)

Hi Epoch,
you can get rag and frozen baits from McAuley's tackle shop on the main street (opp Northern Bank), he usually has enough bait so you won't need to book.
I fished Ballycastle beach a few weeks ago along with other forum members, we landed a mix of dogs, flounder and dab. You can get Sea Trout on this beach also.
20 mins drive along the A2 south from Ballycastle lies Cushendun, there is a good beach here, tides will suit night sessions this coming week HT tonight = 20.30.
There are several reports on this site about this mark. It is fishing well at the minute.
The next village south from Cushendun is Cushendall, there is another tackle shop here - O'Neills Country Sports - they also stock rag (opp Library entrance to Car Park near Texaco Garage in village). You can fish the beach (follow signs for Golf Course) or the rocks at either end of the beach.
If you are feeling adventurous, you could try Torr Head, signposted on A2 between B'castle and C'dun. Make sure the weather is calm and sea is flat before trying this mark, you can get caught out easily on a rough night - expect tackle loss at this mark as the ground is rough but there are big pollack here....
Hope this helps.
