[b]Duration[2 three hour spells over high and low water]:

[b]Tide[very big spring ]:

[b]Weather[cool with blustery northerly]:

[b]Bait[king rag and spinners]:

[b]Rigs[1 up 1 down]:

[b]Results[1 bass about 31/2 - 4lb]:

[b]Report[I caught the bass bait fishing over the high tide early morning. Went back to fish low water in the afternoon with bait and spiners but nothing for me.

Met Cortaz and another guy and his report tells the rest of the story. The images below will give you some idea of the size of this thing.

how was that fish caught was it on bait or lure?some fish some fight id say.

a typical cunnigar "bar of silver"
had 40+ bass this week like that, all between 3/8lb. most were released.

cunniger sounds brilliant place. im tryin to increase my first species tally and lately ive seen tope, smoothounds, bass and electric rays around this vacinity. im planing a trip down that direction but not sure where this is if anyone can help with the directions and location id be very greatfull. you guys are so lucky to live round there as i live in near belfast and the fishing mostly crap. please help me lol

Hi johnson1,

First thing you'll need is Sheet Number 82 in the OS Discovery Series of maps. If you're heading down that direction, consider also investing in 69, 77, 76 and 81!!

Cunnigar is the spit across the estuary in Dungarvan. I've only been there once this year so I'm a complete novice at that mark. It's a beautiful spot. Before heading down, search through the shore angling reports for Cunnigar. It's well worth researching before you go down.

is it just good for bass or is there any thing else taken here. we are looking to increase species list and wood greatly appreciate all local knowledge guys, all types of dogs and rays wood be next preference after bass cheers guys

cheers livid gonna hav a look now u wouldnt happen to hav any more for the south east coast we gonna go down for a week and try few spots. very greatful mate

I drive down from Belfast on a regular basis, have now been there about 6 or 7 times in the last year or so and I am only now getting to grips with fishing the place. Five trips before i got a bream and although i have caught 40+ bass (mostly schoolies in the 1-2 lb range), my best to date is 4 lb. Still haven't managed to connect with one of the bigger ones. So the fish are there, but not as easy to catch as reports may show. But I will be back again in a few weeks to try again. Love the place.

well id be happy with any bass at all lol dont care bout the size although i do want to try one to see what all the fuss is bout. is cunniger a big estuary then bit of a hit and miss, and i hear u catch best at dusk or dawn no chance of me for the dawn ones lol, have to be the dusk ones. cheers for more info guys i need as much as i can get!

Cortaz is the local expert but some pointers from me are
yes it is a massive estuary with several rivers flowing into it. At low water it is just a large area of sand with the water a mile or more in the distance, so bring your walking boots and waders. High or low tide you need to wade as it is very shallow, you are never in more than 4 or 5 feet of water. You only really fish at high tide on big springs. I have fished dawn several times and not found it particularly better than any other time. I have never fished dusk but most of the fish reported are caught during normal daylight hours. I would guess tide and weather more important.
