Dont buy cheap line.

#1 Post by martin32 »

I was shopping two weeks ago in the Sunday markets and bought some cheap Mono line 2olb. Have had my main line snap twice and my rig snap on a cast a few times.Even put it on a new reel and have had the same problems. So if i was to give a "TIP" dont buy cheap Mono line!!

P.S. Never had this happen b4 with better lines.

Does not just have to be cheap line that is crap, Mate and i both bought line at a well known tackle shop and he used it first and said it was weak and breaking very easy. I gave it a go last week and he was right, it was snapping in my hand when tieing knots, never had that problem before. Had to bin the whole spool of 10lb line and have an 18lb spool of the same make and not sure wether i want to risk it.

Ten pound line is not really strong and once knotted it will break easy enough. Stick to the tested lines and you wont go too wrong. I remember a thread on a while ago where a lot of guys gave their fav lines and there were a lot of brands being used.

The 10lb line was on my spinning rod. Have used that strength for a few years and it never broke like that. always used ariel specimin sea and is better than the other make i bought. Use the 18lb on a beachcaster.

I would generally only buy well-known brands of line and avoid unknown cheap brands. Having said that, I bought a double pack of spools of 8kg line (one clear, the other greenish) in Lidl last year and it wasn't at all bad. I used it for shore and pike fishing and it was OK.

it just all depends on the make, i bought a 1/4 spool of 15lb line a couple of years back for £2.50, it was a cheap ron thompson or something....one of the best lines i ever put on a reel, so it just goes to show you!
some of the cheap lines are actually indentical to the dearer ones, they are made and spooled in the same factories, then different labels put on them!
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!
