Line size for wrasse fishing?

#1 Post by IDPearl »

Hooked into a wrasse on 15lb flourocarbon snood on Sunday, but the wrasse bit straight through. What line/hook size do you recommend for wrasse fishing?

I'd usually use 12lb to 15lb with a size 1 crab hook with wrasse fishing from the rocks in Slea Head.

wrasse are not line shy and use 15lb. as a minimum. they easily bite through hardback crabs....don't be afraid of 20/ 25lb. snoods and more- just match the snood to the kelp, black amnesia or supersnood.

in the UK i'll quite happily fish 30lb amnesia snoods. look at the gnashers on a 4lb wrasse and you'll see why. have used 50lb in the past with np. mostly legering for them tho
