Damaged rigs...

#1 Post by g.wyse »

Hi guys, just back from Castlegregory in Kerry, not much to report(only got a couple of hours in) .But i was wondering if anyone could tell me why some of the rigs(home made and store bought) were coming back damaged :? . i didn't have this problem last year with the same set up.Nice one if anyone could help as i'll probably be down there again in a couple of weeks with a bit of luck. :)

I'm thinking that even tought you were fishing over clean ground you might have rubber the leader or rig off a small rock or something like that on the retrieve.

I'd bet my best bass rod it was spider crabs. Tons of em down there and we have had similar results when fishing there.

Let me know when down there nest and i'll put you on to some quality marks

my vote goes with spider crabs as well.
they're kerry spider crabs so they're cute hoors as well.

Ever reel back your trace to find you hook missing?

thats a Kerry crab.

Nice one lads :) , i hadn't come accross this problem before. It was clean ground alright i had a quick look when the tide was out. Also it might not be relevent but most of the damage was done on rigs with fish bait(mackeral, sandeel etc.) but the crab bait rigs were fairly ok.Eoghan, thanks i'll let you know, trust me i could do with the help.Rock and pier fishing i have no problem with but i left all my beach fishing skills(not that i had many) behind when i left Waterford.
