People: Me

Duration: 10am - 13pmish

Tide:HW down

Weather:Spectacular

Bait:Day old mackerel

Rigs:Float

Results:2 mullet and a broken hand, arm, wrist and thumb!!!

Report:
Had taken a few macks from the Cobh outing the previous day and decided to have a crack at the mullet. Put down a nice mix of groundbait of cuttleted macks and soon had them feeding very strongly. I had one to about 3lbs fairly quickly on a very sensitive waggler to a size 12 hook.
About an hour in an absolutely massive, massive fish moseyed on through the swim. I've had them to 7lbs and this guy absolutely annihalated them. Being somewhat conservative I'd put it at 12lbs. I thought briefly it was a bass (not uncommon here) but he hung around and I had a good look at it and deffo mullet. In short if you want to smash the Irish record, the head of Courtmac pier is the place to be!
Shrotly thereafter I hooked another 3lbish fish and while navigating a maze of yacht ropes going down the steps I tripped and managed to rebreak (rugby injury) my hand and thumb, crack my wrist and "shatter" my arm. Hurt like a b*****d. 4 hours in Clon hospital and minimum 6 weeks in cast. Long story short, be careful of slippy steps and rope mazes!

Aw you know it ID! I held onto the rod and I didnt even twig id done the damage until i stood up and tried to lift the rod with my wrist, arm went about 3 inches above the wrist and broke clean in half so I concentrated on yelping like an ould wan while a buddy sorted out the fish.
