West Mayo flatties bash

#1 Post by saving private brian »

After fishing the Belmullet sac two day shore competition over the weekend in which proved to be a fantastic weekend all around, i just couldn't throw out the unused bait that was left over

Had the Monday booked off from work so i went back to basics and headed for a beach that has thrown up in the past for me

The sea swells had risen from the Sunday and with the rising tide in my favour, i was optimistic from the start

Increased hook sizes to hopefully attract the larger fish and it paid off

Fished from around midday till 15:00 and managed to pluck over a dozen beefy flounders from the surf along with half a dozen palm sized turbot and handful of weavers

Great to see the flounders all in decent size and good and plump. Ranged mainly between 35-40mm

Ragworm and lug outperformed fish baits where as it was the other way around for the competition. That's fishing for ya

Anyway great way to spend the few hours and i am optimistic for the next few months that lay ahead should the weather hold out

Tight lines
Brian
