North Dublin 18.08.2024

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 18/09/2023
Where: North Dublin
Who: Myself
Duration: 19:30-23:45
High Water: 23:00
Equipment: 12ft and 13ft Daiwa beach rods, 6000 and 8000 penn pursuit III
Bait: Fresh peeler crab and ragworm
Conditions: Overcast, calm but slightly coloured waters
Result: Approx. 4lb smoothhound

I've been quietly fishing away here in North Dublin all summer, have had 2 bass so far but didn't get a chance to post those reports.. The first one a 48cm bass was caught on a squid bait beach fishing at night back in May, and the other was a tiny schoolie I caught on lure 2 weeks ago. I've been putting the hours in and it seems very quiet this year around these parts..

Tonight I headed to one of my regular beach marks hoping for a bass, the conditions were decent enough but a bit more surf would have been nice. I got down there fairly early in the tide just to get a look at the ground I'd be fishing and pick a good spot, then got set up and fishing straight away. I had the rag on a 2 hook flapper with one of those rolling weights cast in close into a gulley, then a big crab bait on a pennel pulley launched as far out as I could cast. Nothing going for the first hour or so then I started getting bites, then a little while later while chatting to another angler I got a good take on the crab, felt like a really good fish and I was praying for it to be a big bass but it ended up being a decent smoothie so I was happy enough! I fished another few hours after that with a couple of bites but then it died off for the last hour or so before I called it a day.
2025 shore species: Bass (1), Dogfish (1), Flounder (4), Whiting (4)

Fair play to you gonzo.Quiet enough around the shore here in North Dublin.
Too many lures ... not enough time...
