Lugworm Pumping Galway Bay

#1 Post by firetiger7 »

Hey Lads,

are there any good places to pump lugworm in Galway Bay? I was at Rusheen Bay and Salthill in a low tide so far, not very succesful.
Thought I better put this one in the Reports so its not public if thats alright...

Hi mate, I don't know the area per se but I do have a good idea what to look for when pumping. The most important thing is that the sand be wet in order for the pump to work correctly, the second most important thing is the angle of attack, that is something you would have to suss out if you are new to pumping, then all you need to do is find a spot with a lot of casts!

BillyFishing on youtube has a few good videos on the subject!

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot!
I guess the technique was the issue, not the place ;) Used the fork yesterday and got me a few nice ones at Salthill. Also the pump I was using is not great since the diameter is only 22mm.

Do you lads find the pumps ever leave the worms intact or do they always end up burst? I might get one for the weekend and try it in Sandymount

This was happening for me at first but once I stopped letting the pump go all the way down it got better, once I started letting the pump go into the sand only 2-3" then pumping the sand out I started getting full worms
