North Dublin Bass 25.04.2021
When: 25/04/2021
Where: North Dublin
Who: Myself
Duration: 21:00-00:30
High Water: 23:20
Equipment: 13ft bass rod with leggy 2 hook flapper with B940 size 4 hooks, and 15ft surf rod 3/0 pennel pulley rig.
My Bait: Ragworm on the small hooks and peeler crab on the pennel.
Conditions: Good surf, clear skies, full moon.
Result: 1 flounder (new PB), 2 bass (new PB)
After blanking the beach comp I was at this afternoon, I got out with the leftover bait to fish the night tide at a spot I've only fished once or twice with no luck. It wasn't long before I had a knock, reeled in a 32cm flounder taken on the ragworm, my new PB. Now I did try and return the fish but I think the hook damaged the gills as he wasn't recovering after 20 minutes of trying so I took him for the table. Another 30 minutes go by and I get a another bite, a lovely bass of 38cm again on the ragworm, after a quick pic with the card for species hunt he went back. It got quiet for a few hours but about an hour after high tide my rod bent right over and I was onto another bass, taken on the peeler crab, this one came in at 45cm so was big enough to keep and is my new PB.

Cracking results. I've never eaten a Flounder. Interested to know what it tastes like? Anything like eating a Plaice?

I've only eaten a flounder once before and I would say it kind of tastes like chickenRod Tips wrote:Cracking results. I've never eaten a Flounder. Interested to know what it tastes like? Anything like eating a Plaice?
