Courtmacsherry Mid August (Late Report)

Bit out of date but didn't want to put a report up until I had the video done.

3 of us headed out with Sean Maxwell from Courtmacsherry mid August for 2 days of fishing. One day for Skate and One for Blues. The first day was a great day to be on the water with clear skies, very settled weather and calm sea but we had nothing bar a dogfish and a handful of Cuckoos. The second day we headed out for some blues and a spot of wrecking. Left the pier at 6am got some fresh mackerel on the way out of the estuary. 23 miles later we were on the sharking grounds and not long after we had a triple hook up. This basically contiinued for the day with very little time between fish. In total we had 19 Blues to the boat including one specimen. After the spot of sharking we stopped of on some of the wrecks on the way home. We only had 2/3 drops at each wreck which resulted in some fine ling and some small cod.

The video is just sharking but it will give an idea of how the day went.

Id say a bit of both. The first was an amazing day if you wanted to stay sun bathing on the beach. No swell , water was like glass and we were only maybe 5 mile from the pier. We stayed around clonakilty Bay Area. With it being so bad, Sean said that if we were willing to make a full day of it he was happy to get on the water for 6am and use that extra time to get well out and have a full day on the sharks. That morning was predicted Force 4 winds so there was a big swell. The cameras really don't do it justice. It was my first time ever feeling a bit sea sick, but being down in the gully for an hour cooking breakfast probably didn't help . The wind definitely helped with getting a nice slick going and I think , if I remember correctly, we covered something like 8-10 miles drifting so we covered a lot of ground. Because of all the ground covered we were within a 30 min steam to the wrecks which was a bonus we didn't expect but we got back to port at around 9pm so we really did make a full day
