High Rock Malahide 29.09.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 29/09/2020
Where: High Rock Malahide
Who: Myself
Duration: 19:00-22:00
High Water: 22:52
Equipment: 15ft shakespeare rod with 9000 reel, 11ft bass rod with 4000 reel.
Bait/Lures: Mackerel, Lugworm, Mussel, Peeler Crab.
Conditions: Mild clear night with almost full moon.
Result: 2 Dogfish

Last minute decided to hit high rock in Malahide this evening to try for bass & smooth hound, also heard if you cast far enough that ray is even possible! Was only setting up the second rod when I got my first bite, nice little dogfish, cast that rod back out with the same bait on and went back to setting up the other rod, just as I was about the cast the second rod out, the first rod went off again! Another smaller dogfish :D After that I had no more luck with the odd bite not hooking up.

So that's it really for me this season, I'll probably just be sticking to my sea angling clubs beach comps over the winter, might try squidding again at some point, will post if I catch anything!

Might try for them on the weekends I don't have a comp but won't be putting in hours like I have been this week again until next summer due to college :D

Definitely wouldn't be giving up. As said above, the codling will be in soon and that's some of the best fishing of the year. I'm going to try down by the telegraph pole myself, looks like it has the potential to throw up a few fish, and the stretch from Killiney to Bray has been productive in the past. Still plenty good in the Dublin area.

I was out there myself with a mate we were originally on a normally very productive bass mark but with the wind cutting us in half we moved to high rock. Gave that about a half hour and knew myself it wasn’t worth hanging on for.
