Malahide Estuary 26.09.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 26/09/2020
Where: Malahide Estuary
Who: Myself
Duration: 12:00-16:00
Low Water: 13:59
Equipment: 9ft spinning rod with 4000 reel.
Bait/Lures: 28g Kilty Catcher Chartreuse.
Conditions: Sunny but cold, bit of surf on the beach.
Result: 1 Mackerel

Hit Malahide estuary again for another crack at a bass using only a kilty lure. I waded out a little bit and after a few casts I was onto a fish, but it turned out to be a mackerel! After fishing there for about 2 hours I walked out to the surf on Malahide beach just as the tide was turning, fished it for about an hour but was having no luck so I returned back to the inner estuary for another hour, didn't manage to catch anything else but happy it wasn't another blank!

Good stuff. Did you fish the Donabate side? Throws up the odd sea trout in Spring

Nah the Malahide side, I did see a decent sized sea trout jump though!

I wouldn’t be eating that mackerel after the reports of raw sewerage at Portmarnock Beach. Water clarity hasn’t been great. Swimming ban for 72 hours since 6pm last night.

Yeah it was fairly clear maybe a little bit of colour to it but mostly clear! Then again I was fishing a very sheltered section of the estuary!
