Novice Boat owner

#1 Post by Lifeisagame »

Hi All
I am looking for some advice please.
I bought a Warrior 165 and have it berthed at Malahide Marina. First time I owned a boat and I did get professional lessons. However I am still a novice and 68 years old.
Now I would like to do some fishing and looking for advice on places to fish local until I have more experience of boat. Also some tips please.
Thank you
Gerry

Nice one Gerry and Welcome!

Dublin bay and the east coast would not be my area but there is surely lads on here who will be able to help.

John Hughes is basd up that way and would know the area well.... I'm trying to contact him at the moment.

You'll get good reading on small boat fishing and boat handling on www.topfisher.eu

Hi Gerry,

This website is great for checking depths and finding marks to fish: https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#b ... heItwvc%40

This one shows all the wrecks you can fish: https://jetstream.gsi.ie/iwdds/delivery ... index.html#

What you want to fish is either a reef/bank with deep water (over 40' or so) or a wreck. The grounds around Lambay and Rockabill lighthouse are great for fishing! Also around the back of Ireland's Eye is good too.

Hi John
No envelope there.

The PM symbol is the "two people" icon. Hold the cursor over it and the words "Private message" should pop up.

You will find your PM notification under the SAI badge on the top left hand corner marked "new Messages"

Hi Donal
Thank you for directions. Unfortunately I get a message indicating I am too new to send messages. I can understand this rule. So I guess I will have to wait a bit.
