Casting with a 2 hook clipped down paternoster rig

#1 Post by Irish_Shamrock »

In an effort to put a few more yards on my casts, I've made up some clipped down rigs - just the usual 2 hook flappers I would normally use only with a Breakaway Impact Shield just above the lead (to clip the lower snood onto) and a cascade swivel in place of a regular swivel attaching the lower snood to the main rig body, to clip the top snood onto.

I've noticed that about 50% of my casts, the top snood comes free from the cascade swivel mid-cast. Is there anything I can do to stop this? I have everything perfectly positioned and the correct tension, etc, on the snoods. Sometimes everything will fly sweetly, other times it will unclip mid-flight and the bait will go everywhere.

Where am I going wrong? Am I not building the rig properly or is it just my casting technique?

Use Gemini SRT springs to keep the upper snood pushed up the trace body - there's a diagram on the packet they come in, or quiz your local tackle dealer.

I agree with Steve, clip them up, they come off in mid flight but they're in the right direction and you know the hooks are off.
