Rogerstown Estuary 01.05.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 01/05/2020
Where: Walking up and down the estuary from the mouth in.
Duration: 04:30-07:30
High Water: 06:25
Lures: Floating minnow lure, sidewinder bloodhead, sinking sandeel lure
Result: Diddly

Decided to try this mark at dawn on rising tide, water was very calm, not a single bite. Hoping to catch my first bass any day now..

Yeah I seen that, post was shared from a UK page though so I don't think it was caught here unfortunately.

If you target Seatrout there you'll inevitably catch bass and visa versa. That's what I used to do in laytown ultimately you end up getting both! And try using silver kiltys I found them brilliant for bass

A lad got a sea trout monday up by me.
Only about a pound. Since then there's been more and more jumping in the estuary all around that size. It was him who told me that 12lb one was caught in baldoyle and the pic looks like there alright. I could be well wrong though

When I target bass I generally end up with ebb. (Everything but bass)

I feel your pain! I spent 2 months on the south Wexford coast (getting out a couple of times a week) trying to get one And never did, whilst lads where catching them at the opposite end of the beach to me. I would then go down that end on my next outing and get nothing, to find out people were catching down where I was previously. Pure torture! Don’t give up!

I've been out at mornington about 6 times and have caught nothing.ive mainly been spinning and although The fish are there they seem very reluctant to hit a lure. There has been quite a few people spinning and in a week 2 small sea trout have been taken. Tonight I'm going with a float set up and try bait. I expect this will encourage the bites and I'm expecting to land 6 or 7 haha

Good luck man, I was out again last night at Portrane rocks with left over mackerel for bait, only caught 2 spider crab, then was out again this evening at Rogerstown estuary, was one other guy fishing with a spinner and neither of us were getting any bites.. I think I will have to consider travelling down to wicklow or wexford after the restrictions are lifted if I'm still not catching by then!

I went with my float set up and bait and managed somehow to catch a crab. Must have swam up for it.
