Bull Huss Near Dublin
Are there any venues around or near Dublin worth a try for a bull huss? It's a species I've never caught and would love to try for. I wondered about the rough ground at distance from Coliemore or onto the clean ground from Sorrento but I've never heard of any reports there.

Scope out killiney beach on a low tide it has some good rough ground you could try
Big baits and big hooks to keep the small fish off your line .Pick a good tide bigger the better get your bait on or as close as possible to the rough stuff sit back and wait .You might get one or you might not but you could pick up anything from cod to conger .
After dark will increase your chances 10 fold
Best bait mac, squid, crab, sand eel or cocktails of these .
Use heavy tackle and expect some tackle losses .

If they're there it's worth a shot. I was thinking 6/0 pulley pennel with rotten bottom, 150 or 200lb mono snood and fairly short snood and body, and big fishy baits. Does Killiney fish well at low water for the bigger fish? Always thought it was a high water only venue.

For huss theres no need to go that heavy with the snood. 80lb will do just fine.

Okay, cool. I might go with 100lb though just to be on the safe side for any conger. What about hooks, 6/0 BMX and a 5/0 chinu pennel sound about right?

Sean, is that off that wee stony beach? I passed it many times in my youth, never gave it a try...

Yeah if your walking from the lighthouse back towards the harbour there's you can access kinda a rock platform , also the rocky beach from the Bailey back towards lions head looks ideal we have caught them from the boat all around that area so don't see why the ground wouldn't hold them closer to shore , prob just would take someone to put in the time
