Tralee and surrounding area

#1 Post by rmwhall »

Hi Guys

coming over to Tralee in 2 weeks and started to get really excited!

I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to tell me where is fishing well at the moment for rays. My aim is to catch a double figure ray during my stay. :?

I may only be able to get out fishing a couple of times during my stay, so any advice will be greatfully received.

Tight lines

Rich,

There was a post up here from a few days ago. A group of lads had been fishing the Tralee/Dingle area for a week and had slow enough fishing with ray being very patchy. From the few reports I've heard around locally this would seem to be spot on with the odd undulate and stinger showing at Fenit but in general the consensus seems to be that it's a bit slow at the moment. The stingers didn't really arrive in the numbers I expected at all this year.

The good news is there are plenty of bass around especially plugging over rough ground and the rock marks on Slea Head are alive with mackerel, big wrasse and good size pollack. We've had wrasse to well over specimen size already and plenty of pollack in the 4-5lb bracket. Dunmore Head is producing plenty of fish.

The SPA area here in Tralee should throw up some ray and the painted should have arrived in numbers with the thornies now but I haven't been out in weeks so can't say for certain. The lighthouse mark in Dingle harbour and on the opposite side at Reenbeg is producing plenty of thornbacks at the moment and is fishing well.

Nice one liamo, i needed info on a couple of areas down Castlegregory area(down there in two weeks time also) and was getting worried after reading a couple of recent reports about how little was being caught.Thought i'd have to spend the week surfing.
