Fly Fishing in Cork/ Bass Tours / Licensing Questions
Hi there,
My Dad is coming to Cork(Kinsale) to Visit and i would like to show him a good time fishing wise. I have it covered from a Baited Sea Shore and Boat angle but he is a dedicated Fluff Chucker and will be looking to wet his fly's also.
A few questions for the Fly Addicts out there ?
1) What’s the story with licensing for 1 or 2 days fishing in Cork?
2) Can he get a day trip on the Bandon or some other water?
3) Are there any good fly fishing waters in Cork ?
4)I also know a land owner with a private stretch of the Bandon on there land -- What kind of licences is required to fish there?
Also fancied doing a Bass Fishing tour, with him, myself and another lad..
5) Does anyone have contact details for that guy that take people out shore bass fishing ?
6) Has anyone been out with him? - good day out ?
7) Is this a good time of year for it?
Thanks

Bass Guide
Is it John Hall you are thinking of?
John normally guides in East Cork.
Haven't been speaking with him in a bit. I have a mobile no. for him. PM if you want it.

Shads
Hey Sam
So far my biggest fish on the shads is a pike to 14lbs on the red and white one. I know that should read pollack, but I've not really started lure fishing this summer yet. Been topeing from the boat.
That should change mid July. Let me know about the trip your planning.
I still owe those cork wreck fish a visit.

Good to hear they are doing the business, have pretty much sold out but am keeping a few back for my next wreaking trip !! You have a PM
On the thread---
http://www.ballyhasslakes.ie looks the business, bit of a trek from Kinsale but they look to have the fish and they are open all year..not too bad on price's either although with the cost of petrol :(
...anyone know of somewhere cheaper for day trippers closer to Cork City? I see a bunch of lads fishing the Bandon River between innashannon and Bandon but not sure if this is privately controlled club water

As a "fluff chucker" myself! The Bandon is a bit of craic and not too expensive (maybe 40 the last time i was on it). Brownies, sea t and salmon. The licences can be bought in Jeffers Sports in the town I think.
Can I recommend the Aargideen though. Lovely little river, very quiet and extremely fishable. Brownies, sea t at night and the very very odd salmon. Tickets are very cheap and can be bought in Clon (possibly elsewhere). The Argideen runs to the sea at Courtmac and runs through Timoleague so its close to Kinsale.
If you need any advice on it let me know. 2 beautiful 2.5 brownies on the dry mayfly on Conn at the weekend by the by (didn't think I'd get a chance to mention that on the site cheers!

Thanks Blaker, good options there.. will look into it further plus the Aargideen, will see if he has any questions on what gear to bring..imagine it just a case of picking the flies for the job but not my area of experiance so will check with him on any ohter info he might need.
One thing i don't 100% understand is the licence situation, what does he need to fish a water like the Bandon or Aargideen, does he need a day pass or a rod licence and a pass or what? He is only here for a week so 1 or 2 days is all he will be fishing (in rivers anyway) can he get a licence for a short term like this..?
Thanks will PM with any questions on tackle and marks (or whatever they are called in rivers..pools??) he may have if thats OK?
Thanks
Sam

the badon can only be fished from inashannon down towards kinsale as its tidal water if your trying to get any where else on the bandon fat chance as it is nearly all club water or private beats you can try to check around i know there is a few logs on the bandon but its big money for a days fishing a license is 25 euro for the year or 12 for the day you need this no Mather where your fishing for salmon or sea trout the dam at Inniscarra just outside the city by ballincollige you can fish this for 25 euro a day this is as far up the river as the salmon can go here is a link
on it
http://www.esb.ie/main/environment/fish ... 0Reservoir

shanec,
Thanks that great, will get him a 25 euro for the year license and he can make the most of it..
From the "inashannon down towards kinsale" (does that start from the bridge down) ?
As it worth fishing in the lower streches of the Bandon towards Kinsale?
Thanks for the LINK looks promising, will check it out

sorry bit slow getting back been sick the past week having been near a PC
ya from the bridge down the best spots on the river would be there just below the bridge just follow the river down the road on the right hand side of the river there is a wall you can hoop over just as you go over the wall there is a deep whole just on the bend great spot also around 100 meters down from that is another great hole and just another 100 meters down from this would be the best stretch for fly fishing big sea trout in that river best fished at dusk at this time of year i find that Dunkeld fly works well
and the bucther always work here all seasoon long .
if went 1 km of so down that road there is a good spot very hard to get into as the place is over growing good spot for fly fishing also just remember to keep an eye on the water level as it is tidal
hope this is a little bit more of a help to you.
