well was out at howth(fishing the lighthouse)one night and i got a massive bit it was just like tap tap whosh! proper take like....dont want to sound stupid but basicly im only 15 and just started last session and i never got such a bite..i froze just stood there and watched it bite away.. a man with me thought it was a huge codling but i dont no how i could be so stupid and that made me want to cry!! what do you lot think it was?

yeah have had that too, i remember one doggie from a deep water rock mark in donegal on a very calm august afternoon with the tide at its highest - two or three massive bites then bang i thought i was into a 4/5lb coalfish with the way the fish shook its head and dived, but nope a 2lb doggie!

The most deceiving bites though have to be gurnard....a 1/2lb gurnard takes bait like a 4lb bass and u think u have a big one until u strike into the fish and it feels like nothing is there at all.
