Waterford Estuary

#1 Post by Balsafloat10 »

Fished a mark on the Waterford side down towards the open sea which I haven't fished for years. I had a very enjoyable day fishing from low water up. First cast produced a nice double of a schoolie and a decent flounder but heavy weed set in and fishing was near impossible. When this cleared I had two more bass, 5 more flounder and a smoothhound. All my fish came on lug, even the smoothie! with razor proving pretty useless. I will go back again with rag and crab as a fellow angler had a number of decent smoothhound on rag.
My best bass was about 21/2 lbs and the smoothie bout 41/2lbs and put up a great fight on a light bass rod.
Rigs were simple two hook flappers with a rolling lead or two hook clipped with a gripper.
tried a bit of spinning with a surface lure but no takes of follows.
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC
