Rod for distance and power

#1 Post by nareik1 »

I am looking for advice on a fixed spool rod suitable for casting distance and ability to handle bigger fish aswell as small.
Ive been looking at penn rampage 15ft 9, the penn squadron 14ft or akios hellrazor 14ft.
Your opinion or any of these would be appreciated

Im sure there is more powerful rods but I am using the akios hellrazor and at that price point I find it excellent I had Conger, spurs and big bull Huss on it . I definitely notice the difference when casting with the same reel and line on my second rod a Shakespeare agility

I have the squadron 15ft and the build quality isn't great, never got used to the rod. I later bought an Imax FR Match Tip, the lightest of the FR Match series (3.5-6oz) and it's been alright taking in hounds last year but I'd recommend the the Match Plus for that sort of stuff. I found a link for a discounted Match tip for 109 pounds, although it could be too light for what you're looking for. https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/Shop/RodsBea ... h-Rods.htm
Edit: Also found the match plus (4-7oz) for 99 pounds: https://www.reelfishing.co.uk/imax-fr-match-rods/
Heard good things about the rampage too.

Had 2 rampages back will loose reel seats and heard a few other issues so id not be a fan, - The squadrons in 14 or 15ft are beasts however. and cheaper - look great too.

Depending on your budget you would be far better served getting a good second hand ZZiplex, Century, Conoflex or AFAW

I recently got access to Kali Kunan Rods and reels - Apparently the godfathers of continental style rods - Anyone any experience with them?
