Looking to head to ferrypoint this weekend and maybe next weekend.

Never ever fished there, how do u get get down to the rocks.

Any tips of places to avoid. Not looking for anything particular just want to wet a line in a new spot.

Hi- yep I sure do. Heard its a nice place to fish and stand a chance of a bass if I use peeler.

Hide tide is about 6pm ish so hoping to get 2hrs either side of that. Currently I only have frozen mackerel as bait.

Whats common there these days?

you will still pick up small codling and maybe coalies. fish to the left of the point towards the mussel beds which you can see at low tides for flounder

I was down there at Christmas and a mate got a bass arou d the 5lb mark with peeler.

Donal Domeney might be a lad to get onto. He is a member on this and an apsolute gent along with it. Told me where was fishing good lately down there and what bait was best.

There are dome cracking threads on Ferrypoint, with some great contributions from Donal Domeney. They are mainly written from the point of view of winter cod fishing- I actually never fished there in the spring/summer for bass. But I guess what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander i.e. it must be a good environment for other fish not just cod

Where do you recommend? Anything other then kellys and fenit will do.

Plenty of marks around Youghal for flounder at this time of the year but most of the flounder would be in poor condition after spawning.

The big 3.9mt tides would make it hard going on most of the marks allowing only an hour either side of high or low to fish around.

No rocks there and you can fish by your car.

If you want to Go Big then travel to Kerry have a go off the pontoon at Knights town on Valentia Island. Plenty of good huss and the usual amount of dog and the chance of a thornback. No fancy baits mackerel, sandeel and squid will do fine.

Be careful out on that rock. Looks like the wind will be northerly on Saturday they would be a bit of a swell blowing onto it.
I'd use the 10 minute rule first. That is sit on the rock above Culloo and watch the waves. Best to try it over low water.

For Knights town clip down pull, 4/0 hook, 60lb snood and a 6oz lead. I normally fish by the first buoy at the corner.
100yd cast will have you well into the channel.

Taht rock rock is lethal alright, last tine i was there a seal was chasing the mackerel on our feathers. Dodgy stuff.but on a summers day its a lovely spot.
