Shad!! Meet?

#1 Post by jd »

So anybody want to meet up to catch some shad in the coming weeks?
I'll be down in Wexford at some point over the Easter weekend and St Mullins is only a hop away.

Nice idea jd
have never tried for them
it's the logistics of the 4 hour drive each way though that I'd need figured out. would need some assurance of a good chance of getting a couple too, to make it worth the trip.
'What's the chances'?

On the flip side of that, I head up most years with nothing more scientific than reports they have been caught in recent times and have never failed. Ability to cast smallish lures under the far bank helps. I’ve never been there on one of the mad evenings where they are jumping on the hooks but there are always a few stragglers around to be had in any visits I’ve had there.

Could well be up for it Brian. Have a possible shark fishing trip lined up for the weekend but if that fails then i'd certainly consider it; could be fun to have a go for them.
Would need to get a fish or two though! What other species are in there if the shad don't show..? And is it necessary to have any permits or anything?
Is there any sign of fish showing yet does anyone know?

Was reading somewhere recently that shad populations were listed as being 'vulnerable', does anyone know any more specifics?
