#1 Post by lumpy »

i no this is the wrong section but anyhow. we were out shadding for pollock this evening i my cousins boat when we caught a pollock of about 4 1/2 lbs. as it had swallowed the shad quite deep we gutted it ta get it out of its stomach. on gutting it we found a freshly consumed oarfish in its stomach about 2 foot long. unusual ta see these. have never seen one in person. thought this might have been of interest to sum1

Its not really unusual but I once had a mackerel cough up a sandeel that was 3/4 the length of the mackerel...!
It couldnt possibly have digested it and was probably the reason it came out so easily.

no it was an oarfish. seen them in an ictiology book a few times and program on them being washed up on beaches. biggest recorded was about 23 feet long and was washed up at a naval base in cuba i think
