cold tea and biscuits

no van today so decided to travel light and head for some deep water to jig my jelly. great day down south... i had to go fishing!

nothing for an hour so time for tea and biscuits and a rethink. a move to rougher ground was in order and i quickly caught a small fish followed by one of 65cm. it was a great sight coming up through the water and i just managed to get it up onto a ledge and grab a hold of it as a large surge of water broke over the rock in front of me. my 2/0 kamasan was well bent but held!






half an hour later a big hit resulted in a January ballan which gave a decent account of himself and always nice to see.



hit a load of rock on retrieve shortly afterwards and said goodbye to my last paddletail so time for home.happy enough- nice to get something that pulls back in January.



a few Stonechat and a Kestrel on the way home and a rainbow back at the house?!

Nice report m.b3, two good fish esp. for January. I'm going to have to give s.p.'s a go for the wrasse this year. A rough little lane, did you walk down in full 2x2 mode? Always good to see some wildlife too and with all those wires, your last pic looks more like an electric arc!

The rig seems like a paternoster type- do you cast it out and then retrieve in a sink-and-draw fashion?

nice fishing and good to see those little white paddle tails catching I just some of them for christmas and wondered if they were worth a go looks like they are well done

I'm going to have to give s.p.'s a go for the wrasse this year.

some fun to be had with them i must try a more committed effort myself!

thats it. steady retrieve generally works well but slow jigging can work when things are slow- basically like beefed up dropshotting.

weather was so good on sunday i had to go back. calm sea and clear water not always good near me so i lowered my expectations. headed straight to the rough ground and took a dozen fish, all pollack, over 3 hours. a few hook pulls and fish went to ground. nothing as big as the 65cm fish the day before but a good stamp. jellyworms took as many fish as the paddletail.

never had much on them until recently- they fished well on saturday compared to the jellyworms when the sea was up and the visibility poor in the water.

fished a short session the weekend gone as the sea started to calm a little. my usual spot was dodgy as the odd swell crashed over and around it so i decided to stay on higher ground.



fishing was slower than normal. i decided to try a different softy to mix things up. simple rigging as usual. i seemed to snag less with the sluggo and gently jigging it back towards me it took a few fish.



it didn't all go to plan though...
snagged with a fish on waiting for it to come out but it never did!



this fish inhaled the lure.



hopefully have my wheels back for next weekend. saturday tides and weather look good for a few flatties in between the snowshowers
